Abstract: Distinctive regional disparity has long existed in China’s tourism economy. However, few researches dig into the mechanism of how influential factor interaction leads to such a disparity. With the statistical data of tourism economy in 31 provinces, this research discussed regional tourism economic disparity through csQCA asymmetric modeling, and uncovered the following results:(1) the causes of regional tourism economic disparity are asymmetric;(2) high/low tourist income have different formation approaches;(3) the functioning of most influential factors will be impacted by other antecedent conditions and presents an asymmetric non-linear effect;(4) convenient transportation is a core condition for high tourist income, and its antecedent configurations are mainly transport driven, while the antecedent configurations leading to low tourist income can be concluded as acquired development limited. This research not only introduced a new perspective for regional tourism economic disparity which enables in-depth comprehension of the complex interaction and non-linear function mechanism of the influential factors, but also explored a region-based tourism development model, therefore,it can offer significant practice guidance for tourism policymakers.

Key words: regional tourism economic disparity, asymmetric perspective, complex causality, crisp set qualitative comparative analysis
