Abstract: Immersive performing arts experience is a form of deep cultural engagement that can effectively awaken visitors' memories and emotions, creating meaningful tourism experiences. However, the impact mechanism of immersive performing arts experiences on visitors' social responsibility behaviors is not yet clear. Based on the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) theory, this study introduces awe and cultural confidence as two mediating variables to explore the impact mechanism of immersive performing arts experiences on visitors' social responsibility behaviors. Through a questionnaire survey of 466 tourists at China's first multidimensional experiential theater themed on maritime power and the first immersive performance on shipbuilding history, The Most Memorable Shipbuilding, the theoretical model was empirically tested. The results show that: (1) Immersive performing arts experiences have a significant positive impact on visitors' social responsibility behaviors. (2) The psychological mechanism through which immersive performing arts experiences influence visitors' social responsibility behaviors is achieved through awe and cultural confidence, with both awe and cultural confidence mediating the relationship between immersive performing arts experiences and visitors' social responsibility behaviors respectively. (3) There is also a chain mediation effect between awe and cultural confidence in the relationship between immersive performing arts experiences and visitors' social responsibility behaviors. This study enriches and expands the theoretical connection between immersive performing arts experiences and their outcome variables, and the findings can help optimize the development and management of immersive performance projects based on shipbuilding culture.
