Abstract: Memorable tourism experiences (MTEs) have become an important topic in the study of tourism experience, but systematic review and reflection are still scarce. Based on the core collection of Web of Science as the main literature source, this paper summarizes the general situation of MTEs research, starts from the concept and summarizes the mechanism of MTEs according to the framework of "antecedent-content-effect", finally analyzes the shortcomings of the research and puts forward suggestions for improvement. It is found that the exploration of MTEs has gone through three stages, and the current stage is mature and stable. There are differences in the composition of memorable experience in different tourism types and tourism stages. The generation of memorable experience is related to individual tourists, interpersonal interaction and destination environment, and its positive impact is reflected in two aspects: destination sustainability and tourist development. This paper makes a new definition of MTEs, pointing out that it has the characteristics of post-experience nature, non-routine and constructivism, and the memory objects can be divided into semantic memory and episodic memory, which belong to long-term autobiographical memory in nature. The content system of MTEs is mainly composed of three parts: sensory stimulation, cognitive impact and emotional tremor, which are beyond the psychological threshold of tourist subjects. The value of MTEs is not only to provide an "memorable paradigm" for tourism experience evaluation, but also to participate in individual life history in the form of tourism experience, thus producing a more profound impact. In view of the differences in understanding of some basic concepts in the current research, the emphasis is on static analysis of memorable content and objects, and there is a certain path dependence in the research paradigm, it is suggested that in the future, attention should be paid to the memory attributes of MTEs, and multiple methods should be adopted to explore their internal psychological and social mechanisms as well as dynamic generation and change mechanisms.

Key words: memorable tourism experiences (MTEs), memorability, tourism memory, tourism experience
